The LEED certification was born over a decade ago, created to design and build spaces with sustainable attributes that allow not only to save energy and water, but also to improve the quality of life of its dwellers. After having certified various projects around the country, AEI wants to go a step further so we have added into our services portfolio the WELL certification.
In accordance to several studies, 83% of the occupants of certified WELL buildings have reported feeling more productive and 94% of these have reported that the space has generated a positive impact on their business performance. One of the reasons by which these indicators are reached, it is due to the comprehensiveness of the strategies around the well being of the occupant.
The WELL certification works this last point to the detail, incorporating seven chapters for well being, these are: air, light, water, nutrition, mind, fitness and comfort, and by doing so providing center stage to the users of the offices or the building.
Now, our customers will have the opportunity to certify their offices in the Silver Gold or Platinum category, and further ensure the highest globally recognized standards for the well being and productivity of their employees. Sustainability Leader of AEI, Alejandro Fonseca, takes a closer look at this new service.
What is the WELL Building Standard?
WELL is an interdisciplinary model of design, construction and operation which allows the integration of improvements in human health and well being through the built spaces. The WELL certification is supported by the IWBI ( International Well Building Institute ) from the United States, and has had great international acclaim, this is why more and more projects are seeking this certification around the globe.
Which are the main objectives?
As its main objectives WELL aims to generate healthy habits, improve nutrition, comfort and well-being of the occupants of different types of built spaces, and in turn maximizing their productivity and quality of life.
What is the difference with the LEED certification?
LEED focuses on sustainability and WELL in well being. Therefore, they have become complementary certifications thanks to the fact that some LEED sustainable principles translate into the well being of persons. When implemented together building performance is optimized for the benefit of human health and the environment.
Why should an organization be WELL certified?
About 92% of the costs of an office building in a periosd of 30 years result from the staff, accordingly the implementation of strategies of well being generate a huge impact on the productivity of the building occupants, ensuring a return on investment in the largest and most important company asset, the people.
