JUNE 2017 AEI U.S. Studio ─ the North American office of world-class commercial design firm AEI, headquartered in Bogota, Colombia ─ announced today that the company has been recognized for its corporate design excellence by the International Interior Design Association’s (IIDA) “2017 Best Interiors of Latin America and the Caribbean Competition” for its Red Hat project located in Bogotá, Colombia.
This is the fourth time AEI has been awarded this prestigious recognition from the IIDA. Previous projects that received this honor include JWT Offices in 2012, Globant offices in 2015, and Colegio Anglo Colombiano Elementary Library in 2016.
The concept "safe with us" was the basis for designing the office for Red Hat, the world's leading provider of open source solutions. The goal was to establish a safe and welcoming space that carries the experience of technology in the cloud into a tangible environment. The digital realm was brought to life through the utilization of lights, symbols, outputs and inputs, and images to awaken great ideas and innovation.
“We are truly thrilled to be distinguished for best interiors by the IIDA for our innovative work on Red Hat,” said AEI Founding Partner Juliana Fernandez. “We believe that successful design satisfies a company’s specific workspace needs, while creating transformative environments that can alter productivity and team collaborations. AEI focuses on comprehending the unique needs of every client, then works through an elaborate design process that results in sophisticated projects that aesthetically express the industry, corporate goals and brand personality.”
Red Hat space boasts an impressive reception area under a handmade cloud created in drywall, with veneered walls that highlight lines in LED light, which simulate the networks and their connectivity. Specialized furniture designed for collaborative spaces turned the office into a place to connect and relax. Unique aspects of the Red Hat design include colors that were used to differentiate spaces and their uses, motivational phrases in branding, and lighting that highlights high-end finishes.
The IIDA Awards celebrate interior design and architecture projects that reflect the highest level of creativity, talent and originality from Latin America and the Caribbean islands. Firms bestowed with this incredible accolade reflect the highest standard of superiority in interiors and emphasize the role of local inspiration and cultural context with sophisticated, globally-relevant designs.
Projects were reviewed by a panel of design professionals, including: Kimshasa Baldwin, NCARB, NCIDQ, LEED AP, Principal, Deture Culsign, Architecture+Interiors; Edwin Beltran, IIDA, Assoc. AIA, Principal, NBBJ; and Suzette Subance Ferrier, IIDA, Studio Design Director, TPG Architecture.
